Family and Friends

We have had a busy few weeks in Middle Pre-Primary!

The children made some beautiful family portraits and we had the opportunity to learn about patterns when we made our frames, using triangles, circles and zigzags!

We started learning about autumn and we made some autumn leaves and changed the tree on our class door to match the season! We also created an autumn tray and the children have been collecting leaves, acorns, conkers and sticks to add to it!

We also learnt three new letters, ‘e’, ‘f’ and ‘g’. We learnt the song ‘Ellie the Elephant’ and read the book Elmer, the children then had to copy the right patterns from the elephants in the book onto their Elmer colouring sheets. We also made frogs (sorry again for the noise) with paper plates and party blowers for their tongues! This week we learnt about the letter ‘g’ and we painted ghosts, we also wrote the word ‘ghost’ with our fingers for an extra spooky look!

We learnt about our first personal goal, which was respect. We discussed how to be respectful to other people, to be respectful of each other’s differences and to understand that we are all different in some way. We learnt about respecting our environments, the toys and all that surrounds us.

Last week we finished our IPC unit ‘Family and Friends’ and we made invitations for our parents and invited them to a little party in our class for our exit point. The children also set up the classroom for our party; they decided what we were going to do and how the room was going to look! It was great to see them taking charge and making some fantastic decisions together, The children also chose to make two different kinds of cupcakes (chocolate and vanilla). They loved making food together and really, really loved eating the cupcakes. We hope that you enjoyed eating them too!

This week was Halloween week, the children made lots of different Halloween decorations! They made bats, coloured Halloween themed pictures and we also made ghost pictures. On Wednesday we had our school Halloween party and had a class feast with lots of yummy cakes, biscuits and bananas! The children wore some wonderful costumes and I think we all had a great day together celebrating Halloween! Yesterday we made some ghost cookies, the children helped make the cookie dough and they used a rolling pin to roll out the dough then a ghost cookie cutter. Once they were cooked the children decorated their cookies with icing sugar and we ate them after our snack. It is really fantastic to see the children making food together and they really enjoy their achievement when they see what they have created!

Well done to all the children on a fantastic and busy few weeks, you have worked so wonderfully together. I hope you all have a lovely break and I am looking forward to seeing you all soon!
