We have had a wonderful few weeks in Middle Pre-Primary learning more about clothes.
We learnt all about where clothes come from and how wool comes from sheep, cotton from the cotton plant, silk from the silk worm and most surprisingly how lots of clothes are made from plastic! We learnt about the processes each material goes through, from the cotton plant to the factory to be turned into string, to then be sewn into the clothes we wear!
The week after our odd sock day we enjoyed ‘Funky Hat Friday’. The children came to school in lots of wonderful hats! At school we made our own with lots of paint, feathers and glitter! It was lovely to see all the children get so creative with their hats.
We were very lucky to have two lovely policewomen visit us and explain what they do every day and also the different parts of their uniforms! Some of the children got to try on their hats, vests and we even got to hold their baton – which was very heavy! The police also let us ride in the van around the school grounds, which was very exciting!
As we continued to learn about clothes we began to think about how clothes go from sheets of material to the clothes we wear. We also talked about the people who make clothes, the designers, and the processes they go through to create new designs. First we used a template of a body and we drew our own faces! Then we chose what we wanted to make (a skirt, trousers, a t-shirt etc.). Next we went to our ‘fabric factory’ and chose the materials we wanted to use for our ‘mini’ clothing. The children really enjoyed creating and designing their own clothes!
For our exit point we had a wonderful day with the rest of pre-primary. First, Upper Pre-Primary put on a play for us of ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’. We then got to show off the t-shirts we designed with a catwalk! All the children have worked really hard during this unit and they have had lots of fun learning all about the clothes we wear. They should be really proud of their creations and how well they worked throughout this unit.
We have been practising our addition skills with different games, activities and worksheets and the children have really enjoyed learning this new skill!
We would like to say welcome to Esti who will be helping us every day in the afternoons. We are so happy to have you join our class and the children already love you!
We also celebrated Lana’s 5th birthday with a delicious chocolate cake, which everyone enjoyed!
Have a wonderful break everyone; I look forward to seeing you back on Monday 6th March!
