Welcome back to the Middle Pre-Primary blog! We have been so busy since our last blog, learning more about Houses and Homes and lots of other fun things!
First we would like to say a big welcome to Dominga, you have settled in so well and we are looking forward to all the learning and adventures we will have together!
We have been learning about lots of different things for our IPC unit Houses and Homes. We learnt about different homes around the world and the various materials they are made of like mud, and then we made our own mud houses. We were able to test the strength of our mud houses and we found out that they aren’t very strong – especially when it rains!
We also read the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and we built three houses – one made of straw, the second made from wood and the third made from bricks! We were also able to test how strong each material was and we found out that bricks are definitely the strongest!
We continued to build our classroom home, adding photos to make it feel more like a home. We built bedrooms and a kitchen too! The children have loved playing in the house, in the kitchen and the bedroom, making food, taking care of the babies and sometimes taking a nap!
We learnt about different animal homes, exploring where animals like birds, bears, fish and spiders live! We were able to explore what a real nest looks, feels and smells like and we learnt a lot about how spiders build their webs!
For our Exit Point we took a walk to look at some houses, we looked at what the houses were made of, discussed what they looked like and we also saw builders building a house! It was very exciting for the children to put all of their houses and homes knowledge into the walk and they really enjoyed exploring the different homes in the street!
We learnt the letter sounds ‘b’, ‘c’ and ‘d’. We made some beautiful butterflies from different shapes - squares, rectangles, circles and triangles! We also made cat masks and we practiced our cutting skills and made some wonderful dinosaurs!
We also celebrated Vidyut and Kenisha’s birthdays, enjoying some delicious cakes with our friends.
Yesterday we had a wonderful day celebrating Halloween! The children dressed up in wonderful costumes, ate lots of yummy treats, got their faces painted, walked the red carpet and danced to some spooky songs! A quick thank you to Lenny-Jean’s mummy for painting the children’s faces and almost all the staff too!
Today we were super brave and we sang and danced to a Halloween song in front of the whole school!
I hope you have a lovely autumn break and I look forward to seeing you all in November!
