Looking for Learning

Fieldwork Education, the creative minds behind the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), have recognised ISG for our clear focus on improving children's learning. Involving children in discussions about how they are learning and how they can improve their learning are one of the many ways we ensure our pupils are busy learning, not just busy doing! Bingo and bouncy castles!

On Friday 20th November our school community had a fun evening together! First of all the children were suprised to see a bouncy castle, games, parachute, bikes and toys set up when they finished school. ISG won an afternoon of fun with Free-Time after collecting old toys to donate to children in need. Afterwards we had our annual family fun Bingo night! The children were so happy to get together, have fun and try to win some prizes! A big thank-you to our fantastic Parents' Association for organising the event, to ING for sponsoring us and to Dominos for giving us a great deal for the pizzas!

A great start!

We have had a lovely start to the 2015-2016 school year! Returning pupils were excited to come back to school to see their friends and teachers and talk about their summer holidays. We are happy to welcome 21 new pupils to our school community! A warm welcome to Miss Rebecca, from Ireland, who is our new middle primary teacher. ISG is truly an International School with children from more than 35 different Nationalities.  After a week at school all the children are starting to learn classroom routines and are getting to know each other.

International Festival 2015

On May 29th we held our annual International Festival. It was a fantastic celebration of the cultural diversity we love here at ISG - we have children and staff representing more than 30 nationalities! It was lovely to see the children so proudly wearing their National costume, singing to all the parents while waving their flag and sharing their country's food so lovingly prepared by their parents. Thank-you to our amazing Parent's Association and the school community who made the event possible. Have a look at a video here!

Classical music show!

Last week the pupils enjoyed an interactive music show by performer Stephen Baron. The Pre-Primary show was based on the story Barbar the elephant, while the Primary show was based on the music of Haydn. Both shows used many colourful props, included amazing piano playing by Stephen himself and were very entertaining.  We also received this lovely feedback from Stephen following his performance: "What a lovely bunch of enthusiastic children, responsive, inquisitive, good listeners, helpful and exuberant - as happy children always are! Hats off to the teachers!". Thank-you Stephen!  Parents can see more photos of the performances in the photo gallery.

STAM Museum find their mystery builder!

Over the last few weeks the Primary classes have been learning all about buildings and villages through their current IPC unit. After an Entry point visit to the STAM museum in Ghent, Rotem was inspired to return with his family. Part of the exhibition allows visitors to build with Lego blocks, and after many hours work Rotem built the Ghelamco Arena. Over the following days the staff at the museum were so impressed with his structure that they tried to find the mystery builder! After another class visit to the STAM today, Miss Jenny proudly told a staff member that Rotem had built the structure, without knowing about the search that had been going on! The staff were so excited to have finally found their mystery builder! Well done Rotem - it is a Lego masterpiece! See the story here

City of Ghent invests in ISG!

As ISG approaches the end of a third successful school year, we are looking forward to the future! The City of Ghent have recognised the importance of an International school here in the city, serving East and West Flanders, and have recently announced that they will invest €750,000 in our new school building! To cater for our growing numbers, our new school building promises to be a wonderful facility and a great environment and space for all children to learn.
