ISG is proud to call Ghent “home”! In many ways, the city embodies all of the values that we carry with us throughout our school, and we are thrilled to help families discover how welcoming and dynamic it can be to live here. Discover some of the things that make Ghent such a fantastic place to live.

Rising Star of Flanders
Ghent is the largest city in the province of East Flanders. While it was once considered a hidden gem of Belgium, it has been stepping into the spotlight as a vibrant and dynamic city. Here are some of the highlights of living in Ghent to inspire any new arrival to this wonderful city!
Art & Culture
Ghent has many stunning and interesting museums with an ever-rotating offering of new exhibitions that the whole family can enjoy! Whether you enjoy modern arts, historical architecture, fine arts, and more, there’s something for everybody to enjoy.

A step away from all of Belgium
Ghent is conveniently located between Belgium’s other major cities and sights. The city’s two main train stations, Gent-Sint-Pieters and Gent-Dampoort, have regular trains that can whisk you off to Brussels, Bruges, Antwerp, Kortrijk, and more. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, you can explore the country via extensive cycling paths too!
Easy to navigate
It’s easy to get around Ghent, even without a car! Ghent is well connected via a network of trams and buses that are reliable and easy to use. The city also boasts well-developed cycle paths, making cycling a safe, convenient, and enjoyable way to get around. Biking is a popular choice for locals and newcomers alike. The city of Ghent also provides plenty of resources to help newcomers feel comfortable and quickly settle into their new hometown.

Plenty of green spaces
In Ghent, you’re never far from a relaxing green space. The city is dedicated to preserving and maintaining its parks, creating plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature. Whether it’s letting the kids play on playgrounds, going for a nice walk, or even taking a dip on a hot day, there’s something for everyone. The Blaarmeersen, a large recreational area with a lake and sandy beach is perfect for outdoor fun, while the Bourgoyen, a vast nature reserve, offers walking trails and a chance to spot local wildlife—all just a short distance from the city center!
