Our Story
Welcome to ISG!
Since opening in 2012 with just ten pupils, ISG has grown into a vibrant international school. We have expanded our programmes, moved to a purpose-built facility, and in 2023, proudly launched ISG+ Secondary School. Our journey is one of growth, resilience, and a deep commitment to our mission.
At ISG, every child’s well-being is our priority. We believe that when children feel safe, valued, and happy, they thrive—academically, socially, and emotionally. Through engaging and challenging learning experiences, we nurture confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.
Our diverse and welcoming community embraces global perspectives, preparing pupils to navigate an ever-changing world with empathy and confidence. ISG is the perfect choice for families relocating to East or West Flanders for work, or for those seeking an internationally minded English curriculum.

September 2012
ISG founded
International School Ghent was founded as a vzw, non-profit organisation and was established in 2012 by our Founding members. A humble start of just ten students, we began in a single classroom located above a Flemish school.
September 2014
Moved to Leopoldkazerne
After two years, it was necessary to find a larger location, so we moved to the Leopoldskazerne near the Citadel park.
Summer 2016
A new home for ISG!
With our increasing pupil numbers, it became necessary to look for a larger and more permanent home. We built our own fantastic new learning facility on De Pintelaan, which we moved into during the summer of 2016.
September 2023
Introducing ISG+ Secondary
In September 2023, we reached an exciting milestone with the launch of ISG+ Secondary School. We began by offering the 1st and 2nd years of Secondary School, following the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP). Each year, we will expand by adding the next level, progressively building towards a full MYP curriculum.

Our story is still unfolding! As we grow, so do our facilities, curriculum offerings, and opportunities for our students. We are excited to welcome an expanding student cohort and are committed to supporting each individual’s journey.
