Primary Language Acquisition

At ISG, English is our language of instruction, with tailored support to ensure every child is both challenged and encouraged in their language development. All students have a weekly Dutch lesson to build their exposure to the local language, and we actively foster the development of each child’s mother tongue, recognizing its role in cognitive and academic growth.

English language support

We provide targeted English language support to help students develop confidence and proficiency in both spoken and written English. Differentiated instruction ensures that each child, whether they are new to English or already fluent, receives the right level of challenge and support to thrive in our learning environment.

Year 5 & 6 Language Acquisition Programme

The language acquisition programme in Years 5 and 6 offers two options: the Dutch or English Booster track. The Dutch programme provides a structured approach to developing language skills, with lessons every day (except Wednesday) to help students reach a more proficient level of Dutch. Alternatively, the English Booster programme focuses on strengthening English language proficiency, ensuring students gain confidence and fluency in their communication skills.

Dutch & French

All classes have Dutch language lessons, with advanced learners receiving additional small-group support through pull-out sessions. In addition, Year 6 students have the option to learn French—one of Belgium’s national languages—giving them an early introduction to a third (or even fourth) language!

“We value the diversity among students, families, and staff, which provides an education in, and of, itself for our child; helping him think globally and raising his awareness of our world. Thank you for a great experience!”
– Feedback from Bramlett family from the US, whose son spent four years at ISG
