Primary Subjects
Rich learning experiences that develop children’s literacy and numeracy skills are at the heart of learning at ISG. Alongside this, children explore a broad range of subjects through the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and take part in weekly Dutch, sport, and music lessons. Our school library also plays a vital role in nurturing a love of reading!

Literacy
Oral language (speaking and listening) and written language (reading and writing) are fully integrated throughout the daily programme. We aim for all our children to be able to express themselves clearly and confidently in English and be proficient readers and writers.
In the lower years, children focus on developing phonological awareness and learning to read and write with accuracy. As they progress into the upper years of Primary, the focus shifts to reading to learn, expanding their literacy and research skills to support deeper exploration and critical thinking.
Numeracy
Throughout the Primary years, children build a strong foundation in numeracy, beginning with hands-on exploration of numbers, patterns, and problem-solving. Through engaging activities, they develop number sense and a deep understanding of mathematical operations. As they progress, they refine their problem-solving skills and mathematical reasoning, applying their knowledge in meaningful, real-world contexts.

IPC
The IPC is an inquiry-based approach allowing children to make meaningful connections across subjects while fostering personal growth and global awareness. Subject goals in Geography, History, Science and Art build a strong foundation, while international goals encourage respect for different cultures and a sense of global citizenship.
Dutch, Sports & Music
Children enjoy weekly lessons in Dutch, sport, and music, taught by specialist teachers who bring expertise and enrich our curriculum.
Our Dutch programme supports both native speakers and those learning Dutch as an additional language. With a focus on oral language children develop their understanding and confidence in the Dutch language. Our goal is to foster a love of language while helping children feel connected to our local community.
Sport lessons are all about having fun while building physical skills, coordination, and teamwork. Every second week, children dive into swimming lessons, where they develop water confidence and improve their strokes.
Weekly music classes inspire creativity and allow children to explore different instruments and discover the joy of making and moving music together. Parents are invited to enjoy our musical performances at our annual winter show and our International Festival.

Language acquisition
At ISG children are fully immersed in English, supported through small class sizes and targeted learning support to help them build their language skills with confidence. In addition to English, Dutch language skills are developed, with differentiated instruction for proficient speakers. We celebrate and embrace the benefits of multilingualism and recognize the importance of supporting each child’s mother tongue.
“We could not be happier with our ISG experience! We value the teachers’ ability to work one-on-one with our student to meet his needs and make educational progress in an effective way.”
– Feedback from Bramlett family from the US, whose son spent four years at ISG
