At ISG, pupils are educated at Pre-Primary, Primary and Secondary level.
- Pre-Primary: From 2.5 years old
- Primary: From 6 years old
- Secondary: From 12/13 years old
Our Vision
All decisions we make at our school grow from our shared vision. We aim to create an inclusive school environment where all pupils are supported to reach their full potential. Our mission statement is not just written on a piece of paper and filed away - it is alive and active in everything we do. Our mission at ISG is to create a caring community where pupils of all nationalities, religious and cultural backgrounds are challenged to become active and open-minded learners and pursue academic and personal excellence.
Our Students
We are a true International School with children representing more than 30 different nationalities. Our diversity brings us together to create a caring and inclusive environment. It is inspiring to see how our pupils, from such diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, learn and play together. In our supportive school community they feel valued, inspired and encouraged to be the best they can be. Our talented teachers also bring a wealth of international experience and are experienced and qualified in supporting children who arrive with little to no English knowledge
Child Protection Policy
At International School Ghent (ISG) we recognise that every child has the right to develop physically, mentally, and socially in a safe and secure environment. Children cannot develop and learn effectively if their physical and mental health are being undermined. At ISG our priority is to create a warm environment, both inside and outside the class where students feel safe and cared for. Click here if you would like to read our Child Protection Policy.
Behaviour Policy
At ISG we celebrate and focus on good conduct. We believe in creating a positive environment where children are encouraged to be thoughtful and take responsibility for their behaviour. We believe high standards of behaviour is not only vital in ensuring our teachers can deliver the curriculum, but also plays a critical role in ensuring that our school is a safe environment for all pupils. Our History
We opened our doors to our first 10 pupils in 2012 and have since gone from strength to strength. For our first two years we were located above a local Flemish school. After two years it was necessary to find a larger location so we moved to the Leopoldskazerne near the Citadel park. With our increasing pupil numbers it became necessary to look for a larger and more permanent home. We built our own fantastic new learning facility on the De Pintelaan which we moved into during the summer of 2016. In September 2023 we achieved our next milestone by opening ISG+ Secondary School. Students are currently able to enrol in the 1st and 2nd year of Secondary School, following the Middle Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate. Each subsequent school year we intend to roll the following school year to offer the complete Middle Years Programme. We are of course very grateful to the founding members of ISG - Ghent University, VIB (Flemish Institute for Biotechnology), Barco and Volvo, and for the support we receive from the cities of Ghent and Kortrijk, and VOKA East and West Flanders. ISG is proud to be the only English speaking school for Pre-Primary, Primary and Secondary students in East and West Flanders!
Our Audit Report
In February 2019 an audit team carried out a comprehensive inspection of our school which consisted of two parts: a preliminary visit of one day and a three day visit. On the first day the audit team met with the Head of School, Maija Lusher, and collected documentation for further scrutiny. During the three day visit inspectors observed lessons (including a learning walk and school assembly), conducted interviews with staff members, pupils, representatives of the parents, examined samples of pupils' work and analysed documentation regarding assessment and tracking of pupils' progress.
The audit team reviewed many aspects of the school's work and looked in detail at the following:
- standards and achievement in the objectives of the curriculum
- the use of assessment information to cater for pupils of all abilities
- the way pupils' progress is tracked to identify individual needs and enhance achievement
- the focus at all levels on improving the quality of teaching and raising standards and achievement
The whole team at ISG are very proud to share with you the audit report of our school. Click here to read it yourself!
