The lead up to the holiday period has been all go, go, go! The children first finished their presentations on ancient clothing, which brought us straight into our Exit Point. Children wore their favourite clothes or traditional clothing from their home countries. They all spoke about their choice of clothing with pride. Following this the children made bean bags and flowers, all hand sewn by themselves.
We were very busy preparing for our Christmas party. We made a range of decorations, from a Christmas tree to masks. When the moment came for the children to sing they felt shy, then excited, then very happy to sing in front of their parents. We sang 'Santa Won't You Bring a Dinosaur'. It was a difficult song but they sang it fabulously and with much enthusiasm. Well done!
With the ice-skating rink open in Ghent city we took the children there as an end of the year treat. They reported back that it was so much fun! They felt that their parents would have been so proud to see them learn to skate!
CThis week, Chimnay and Natalie tested their Lego skills again and were both deeply involved in their constructions.
This week we celebrated Anika's Birthday, her parents brought in a delicious cake and the kids enjoyed another celebration.
The academic year of 2015 has come to an end and I would like to wish you all a lovely holiday and a very happy and healthy 2016.
As part of our IPC project on 'Fashion' we took an in-depth look into ancient civilisations. The children worked in pairs to find out about what clothes and accessories were worn hundreds of years ago. The children then presented their new knowledge at assembly last week with great pride! We are now developing our sewing and knitting techniques and the children are making scarfs, hats and bags.
Luka was given the Head Master Award at assembly for being so motivated and for his overall improvement and Shane was given the Golden Box Award for being such a caring and helpful child. We feel very proud of both boys for such achievements.
A baby guinea pig spent a morning with us in class and the children took great care in feeding and loving him. They showed great respect towards the little one.
Diya and Avyukth got to test their skills at the Lego Challenge, and both succeeded in producing fun animals, a gorilla and a crocodile.
As Christmas is just around the corner we were privilaged to have St.Nicholas visit the school on Friday and the children were overwhelmed by his kind and motivating words.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my students, their parents and the staff at ISG for making my birthday a very special day, I am very grateful.
Wishing you all a relaxing weekend.
Following a well deserved autumn break Middle Primary have returned full of enthusiasm. They have been working extremely hard and have been sharing all that they have researched for our new IPC Unit 'Fashion'. For our entry point we looked at traditional clothing from many countries, including the home countries of the class. We have delved into the history of clothing, and so far have taken a close look at the clothes and accessories of The Ice Age, The Stone Age, The Bronze Age, The Vikings, The Romans and the Egyptians. The children are so intrigued in their research of ancient fashion that on a couple of occasions they did not want to have a break!!!!
Yashika got to test her capabilities at the lego challenge and she was delighted with her plane, well done!
Wishing you all a lovely weekend!
We have been working very hard on our IPC project 'Chocolate'. The children have been finding out about their senses and where chocolate comes from, they have also been locating countries on the world map. We also celebrated Yashika's and Diya's 7th birthdays. On Friday we started swimming lessons, all the children were very excited about improving their swimming skills. Here they are eagerly waiting to go to the pool! What a happy class!
Sharing is a vital life skill. It’s something children need to learn in order to make and keep friends and play cooperatively. We have been focusing on getting to know each other better through sharing. The children made little presents and gave cards to a special person in the class. When asked how they felt when giving or receiving they responded "it felt great to share, to make someone else feel happy, it was an enjoyable moment, I like being kind, it felt fabulous, it felt special to share." As the leaves are changing colour and falling to the ground, we took a walk through the Citadel Park. We learnt about the different types of tress and their leaves and are now decorating our classroom in an array of autumnal colours. In IPC we have been looking into dental hygiene and looked closely at the importance of taking care of our teeth. The children were shown how teeth can decay and how cavities are formed, we spoke about the importance of eating healthy and brushing our teeth properly and regularly. We did an experiment on our own teeth to see if we are brushing them correctly, it was a fun experiment with good results! On another note we have started to make a chocolate factory, this a fun art experience for all the children. Shawn has shown his enthusiasm and resilience in Lego this week, his construction of 'a big giant' was a huge hit, well done Shawn! In numeracy we have begun working with doubles and halves which will lead us into a more in-depth study of fractions. And in literacy we have been focusing on descriptive writing. What a busy couple of weeks in Middle Primary!
We have had a very busy week getting to know each other and organizing our classroom. The children love their new class. We warmly welcome our new students Natalie and Anika, who have settled in fabulously. Our class now consists of six different nationalities. The students have also completed art work, such as united hand prints and individual hanging rainbows. All the children have shown a keen interest in reading and love our reading corner. Miss Ana has been a great help this week with our reading programme. We have started our language programme with an influence on grammar. Our Abacus maths programme got under way with a focus on counting up to 1000. The children are already immersing themselves and enjoying it! The children also had their first Dutch class, and they were very keen to tell what they had learnt. To end our first week we enjoyed fun in the sun at the Citadel Park
