Family and Friends

We have been extremely busy in upper pre-primary, our little school family has been learning so much, lots of new knowledge and lots of new skills. We are delighted to welcome lovely Mirei to our class. She is settling in very well, all the children love her!

Our first IPC unit on family and friends is well under way. We had a super entry point to start off our unit! It definitely got the children interested and involved in their own learning. They had to organize our classroom into a little home deciding what rooms they would like and what to put in each room. Thank you all for bringing such lovely things to make our home so cosy. For our entry point the children also made apple sauce which we ate together celebrating our first family meal!

Over the past three weeks the children have been gradually making things to add to our ‘family home’ – a television with many remote controls! washing machine, a laptop (basic things every home should have!). They are enjoying being creative and are learning to play nicely in our home, showing respect to each other and to all the toys and other objects in our classroom.

We have talked about having a ‘class family’ but also a very big ‘school family’. We made lovely decorative hearts for each class in our school and also for the people working in it. We made hearts for Anay and Kasper’s brothers as they are in our school too. We went on a tour of the school to meet all the people and give our hearts! It gave us a lovely warm family feeling. We were also delighted to welcome our ‘buddy class’, ‘upper primary’ to our classroom last week. It was our first meeting but we hope to do many things together during the year. We are sure we will learn a lot from them.

We talked about a very important person in our families ‘our mums’, what they do for us and how much we love them. The children made beautiful pictures of their mums and learnt how to make a frame around the picture. I am happy to see the children use this new skill when they are making their own free pictures in the class.

Thank you for bringing your family photographs to school. They led to lots of discussion as each child had to present their own photos. This week we were busy making ‘Family Portraits’. It involved many stages of work, first drawing the picture in pencil, then painting it very carefully, then the final touch, the golden frame! The portraits are gorgeous, well done to all the children.

Besides our IPC unit we have also been doing lots of other learning. In numeracy we have started our ‘mathemagic’ book concentrating on number activities 1-5. In language we have been working hard with our ‘Jolly Phonics’ and have been introduced to all the sounds in our first book (s,a,t,p,i,n).  Next week we will work on putting these sounds together to read words! Exciting times ahead!

We are having great fun in upper pre-primary! Enjoy the photos! See you on Monday!
