Miss Mia's Class

Dear Parents of Ansh, Arshita, Avyukth, Luiza, Luka, Sebastian, Yashika and Zirak,

It has been a great pleasure teaching and getting to know your lovely children. They have been very responsive and have made me feel very welcome . There is a lovely atmosphere in the class with the children eager to work and learn new things.

As I am working with the older children from Corine’s class, I will put more emphasis on the language and arithmetic work. In the area of language the children will learn the phonetic sounds of the letters and eventually blend the letters together to read words. Alongside learning the sounds the children will also practice writing the letters and doing other exercises to develop their fine motor skills. The children will learn lots of songs and poems, this not only appeals to their musical sense but enriches their vocabulary and is lots of fun! The children will also be following ‘ Reading Eggs’ on the computer, more information about this will follow later. The children who can read will have the opportunity to take a book home on a regular basis. In the area of arithmetic the children will learn to count , recognize and write numbers. They will also be exposed to addition and subtraction and other early mathematical concepts. As with the language work, I will not only work with the children in groups but also individually, in this way the children can develop naturally at their own level.

During the morning the children also get the opportunity to choose their own work and play in the different areas in the classroom.

As I am following the IPC unit on food, many of the exercises in the class are related to this topic. Peeling and grating carrots, counting cherry tomatoes , printing mushrooms, making a fruit basket, drawing with fruit and vegetable templates, planting seeds, have all been a great success!

On Fridays I will send each child’s work home in a folder. The work maybe a letter or a number they are learning to write or a piece of art or something they have done freely themselves. It will be different for each child. Some of the art work, however I will keep till the end of the topic to decorate the class. You should keep the work at home and return the empty folder on Monday morning.

I am looking forward enthusiastically to the months ahead. I am sure both the children and I will have lots of fun and they will make lots of progress.
