Let's pretend !

Over the last three weeks we were very busy with our fantastic IPC unit called ‘Let’s Pretend’. The children loved our field trip to the museum ‘Huis van Alijn’ where we pretended to be a music band and saw lots of music instruments.  The children received special uniforms and saw different items from everyday life and how they have changed over the years. At the end of the visit we played music and marched like a real band. It was a lot of fun!

Next, we worked together on our show “The Gingerbread Man’. The children loved acting out the different characters - some liked being the little old lady who created the gingerbread man while others preferred to be the horse that tries to catch the Gingerbread man. Some children loved playing the fox that tricked the Gingerbread man and ate him at the end of the story.  We then looked more closely at the sequence of the story. Each child looked at 6 pictures from the story and then organized them chronologically. We painted the river and the road for our show and then the highlight was baking and decorating our own special gingerbread cookies!

After learning all about the Gingerbread man we learned how to make sock puppets! We developed our cutting and sticking skills and created beautiful puppets that we love to play with.

For literacy we learned the ‘e’ and ‘r’ sounds. We played games with objects that start with these sounds and painted the letters 'e' and 'r'.

This month our fourth personal goal is ‘enquiry’. We have talked about how it is very important to ask questions, to investigate and explore our world as this way we gain knowledge and understanding. We gave ‘Dora’ as an example of a girl who is very inquisitive!

On Thursday we had our ‘Exit Point’. The children were very excited to watch Upper Pre-Primary kids performing the fairy tale ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. Then Lower Pre-Primary presented ‘The Gingerbread Man’ story. We sang our gingerbread man song and finished by eating delicious gingerbread man cookies. It was fabulous! Well done everyone, we are very proud of all the children for a great performance.

We ended our week with a colourful carnival full of music, dance and happiness.

Have a lovely holiday. Take care and enjoy your family and friends.
